Most strawberry & other small, delicate fruit punnet checkweighing is done at high speed - typically 120 - 200 packs per minute. That's the common situation where fruit comes into the packing shed from the field in larger trays & then is re-packed into punnets/clamshells either manually or by mechanically. A checkweigher and metal detector are placed at end of line to reject any non conforming packs. Some farms however, minimise the double handling of these expensive fruits by packing directly into an open punnet in the field. Good pickers are pretty skilled at getting the right amount of fruit in the punnet but to make sure they comply, they remain un-lidded, are brought into the packhouse and must go over a checkweigher before being sealed. As per above, non-conforming packs are still diverted for correction. Because they are open, these must be conveyed & diverted gently to avoid spilling or damaging the fruit. After inspection, all the packs are sealed or lidded and then prepared for dispatch. A&D Checkweighers are extremely flexible because of their modular design and broad range of programming profiles.
